Frequently Asked Questions

When will I receive the unlocking code?
Once your payment has been affected, the restriction code will be sent to your email address with full instructions on how to enter it into your phone within 5 to 20 minutes during our working hours.

Do you offer discounts on bulk orders?
Yes, if you have more than five mobile phones which need to be unlocked, we can offer very special prices. Please contact us for all details.

What will happen if the phone is still locked?
If your phone is not stolen/barred, technically there is no such possibility. If you give us the correct IMEI number, phone model and the network to which it is locked then you will be supplied with the appropriate unlock codes which will unlock your phone with 100% success. If in such rare case it does not work we will refund you.

How do you unlock my phone?
You provide us with certain simple to find details of your phone on the form above. Using remote software, we take these details and calculate an individual unlock code which we send to you by email. Follow the instructions we provide to enter the unlock code into your phones key pad, and the phone will be immediately unlocked. Easy!

Can you guarantee that you can unlock my phone?
If your phone is one of the Nokia models listed above then yes, we guarantee we can unlock your phone. If we cannot unlock your phone, then we will provide you with a full refund.

Will unlocking my phone damage it?
No. All unlocking the phone does is remove the network lock and sim lock that are entered into the phones software when sold to you by a network provider.

How do I find out my phones IMEI number?
Easy, enter *#06# on your phone's key pad and the 15 digit number will be displayed on the screen. Alternatively you can also find it on a label on the back of your phone, underneath the battery. The IMEI number is the International Mobile Equipment Identifier, a 15 digit number that uniquely identifies your phone. The unlock code will be generated from this and so it is very important that you provide us with the correct code. If we do not have the correct IMEI number, we cannot generate the correct unlock code.

What if my unlock code does not work?
It's not possible! If the code does not work then it is likely that you have made a error in entering your mobile phone details. In the unlikely event that this does occur, please contact us

Is Mobile Phone Unlocking Illegal?
No. Unlocking a mobile phone for use on all networks perfectly legal. In fact it is your right as a consumer. The networks will charge you up to £40 to provide the same unlock code we provide for just £2.99. This is because they want to retain your business, so they will charge you a premium for a service that you are entitled to as a consumer.

What IS illegal is the unblocking or changing the IMEI of a mobile phone in the UK. We only offer the unlocking of mobile phones, so please do not ask us to perform any other procedure on your phone!

How do I check to see if my phone is locked?
The simplest way to check if your phone is locked is to insert a SIM card from another network and see if the phone will accept it. If your phone is locked you will often see an error message of some kind. These messages vary depending on your handset manufacturer:
Nokia = "Enter restriction code" or "SIM card rejected"
Motorola = "Enter special code"
Ericsson = "Enter Correct SIM"
Sony Ericsson = "Incorrect SIM"
Samsung = "Invalid Network SIM...Enter Code"
Panasonic = "Invalid SIM"
Siemens = "Phone disabled! NETWORK LOCK"v Sharp = "Invalid Network SIM"

If you do not have access to a SIM card from another network then there is a less scientific method you can use to check if your handset is locked. Simply look to see if your network has placed their logo on your phone somewhere. For example in the UK orange always lock their handsets and they always "badge" their phones with their own Orange logo either on the front or the back of the handset. It is a sure give away that the network has customised the handset to their requirements which means they have also locked it!

What is Unlocking?
In a bid to retain your custom, network providers 'lock' their phones to their network. This means you can't use your phone with a different provider. If you attempt to place a SIM card from another operator into your phone, you will get the familiar message on screen: 'SIM card not accepted' or similar annoying message.

For example: UK Virgin lock their phones to their network and if you wanted to put an O2 SIM card in your Virgin phone... You wouldn't be able too because it's locked to the Virgin network.

Is Unlocking Legal?
Yes, perfectly. If you are in any doubt, we refer you to OFTEL's most recent report, which outlines that Phone Locking is a barrier to fair competition.

"What is Remote Unlocking"?
Remote unlocking is a new way of unlocking phones, without having to send them to us. We need certain information from your mobile. With this information we are able to calculate certain unique codes for you to enter into the phone to lift network restrictions.

"How long before I get my codes back"?
We always quote 1-48 hours on unlocking code delivery, but often you will receive them within 1-3 hours. It can depend on our current workload. Siemens However do usually take quite a while longer.

"Why would I want to unlock my phone?"
Unlocking mobile phones basically means unrestricting the phones potential to use any network. An unlocked phone can use any sim card from any network, from any country. Ideal if you're planning a trip to another country and would like to use that country's local sim card. Or you have a new phone but would prefer to use your old sim card on a different network.

Is it illegal?
No!
However, stealing phones is! So Don't bother trying this service if you don't know the history of the phone. Remote unlocking will not work with a BARRED mobile that has been reported lost or stolen to the network provider.

IMEI Changing, do we do it?
No!
IMEI changing is illegal, so don't even bother to ask us!

How does 'Unlocking BY Post' work?
Easy! Just send the phone in a well packed recorded or registered mail padded bag (preferably registered mail) and enclose a copy of your Name, Address and Phone Number that we can contact you on along with payment method. Please also provide us with any access PIN codes to access your phone and the battery. DO NOT send your sim card. We will get your phone back to you as soon as the work is done.

How long does it take?
We can send most phones back to you on the same day as receiving them, but some phones may take an extra day or two if they have to be sent to our workshop engineers.

How much does it cost?

Do we only unlock UK phones by post?

This is the same remote unlocking service offered by network providers and numerous other companies, yet at a fraction of the cost. MobileLiberation also saves you the headaches of taking your phone to a service center, filling out lengthy forms, or having to post your Nokia off to be unlocked.

Simply complete a few easy steps and your remote unlocking code will be calculated online, type it into your phone, and "voila!" your Nokia will be free!

Why would you want to unlock your Nokia?
These are just some of the advantages of unlocking your phone:

  • Change your network provider to take advantage of lower call rates or extra services.
  • The freedom to use multiple numbers/SIMs from separate companies.
  • Traveling overseas? Use a SIM from the country you're visiting and avoid roaming charges.
  • Unlocked phones are easier to sell as the buyer can use the network of their choice.

I can't enter the final # of my unlock code, why?
The chances are you are try to unlock a DCT3 Nokia. The codes that are generated will only unlock DCT4 Nokia's. For a complete list of which Nokia's are DCT3 and which are DCT4 please look here: http://www.unlockme.co.uk/softwareversions.html

I have entered an incorrect code more than 5 times. I see the message "cannot undo restriction" or "not allowed" when i enter the code, what now?

If you see any of the above messages then you have entered an incorrect code more than 5 times! When entering unlock codes you only get 5 attempts. There is no free solution to unlock your phone if you have entered the incorrect code to many times. The best advice I can offer is to take your phone to a professional unlocker such as a market trader or small independent retailer. They will use a direct unlock method using either a data cable or clip. These solutions are normally quite expensive to buy and unless you plan to unlock many phones it is not cost effective to purchase these yourself.

    Is changing IMEI numbers illegal?
YES!! I give no information on illegal activities such as these. There is only one reason why you would want to change your IMEI. Read my blacklisted section for more details: http://www.unlockme.co.uk/blacklist.html
